Kevin Williamson: From Actor to Screenwriter

Kevin Williamson is an American screenwriter, producer, director and actor with a net worth of $55 million. He began his career as an actor before shifting his focus to screenwriting after moving to Los Angeles in the early 90s.

Williamson is best known for creating the popular television series Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003), The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017) and The Following (2013-present). He also wrote the screenplays for the slasher films Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 4, as well as I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, Teaching Mrs. Tingle (which he also directed) and Cursed.

Williamson’s most successful endeavor has been The Vampire Diaries, co-created with Julie Plec in 2009. The series spawned two spin-offs, The Originals and Legacies, and produced over 300 syndicated episodes.

From a young age, Williamson was intrigued by the macabre. He once visited the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia with his parents and was fascinated by The Raven written on the walls. Williamson came out as gay in 1992 and dated Fashion Police host George Kotsiopoulos for 15 months before ending the relationship in 2015.
